Montauk: Built on Connection & Aligned in Purpose

Montauk Flow Surf Academy brings the transformative power of the ocean to athletes with neurodivergent abilities. Based at Ditch Plains, our summer program creates a safe, uplifting environment where participants learn to surf and swim in the ocean while building confidence, independence, and meaningful connections.

What sets Montauk apart is its near-peer model students and young adults mentor athletes side-by-side, fostering relatability, leadership, and a strong sense of community both in and out of the water. This shared experience creates lasting bonds and helps athletes feel supported, understood, and empowered.

Beyond surfing, the program continues year round. Winter swimming sessions focus on developing foundational surf skills, while sailing programs during the summer season expand each athlete’s connection to the ocean and their sense of independence on the water.

Through surfing and these evolving ocean-based experiences, we see powerful growth across emotional well-being, physical health, and social connection. Fear turns into excitement, hesitation into confidence. Athletes gain independence, families find a supportive network, and volunteers grow into compassionate leaders all rooted in the shared rhythm of the ocean.

“This new path with Flow West Coast feels right. What they’ve built and what we’ve developed over the years it’s all lining up to take things to new heights.”

- Bob Miller, East Coast Director, Flow Surf Academy
